This project was inspired by the ‘Halakki Vokkaligas’ of India, who possess a rich and ancient folklore that shares a close bond with the practice of singing. The Halakki women are powerful and hold the community together, they sing songs to assert their identity and belief, passed down through generations.

Illustrations were developed by interpreting and responding to the research. This project was digitally created on photoshop, by implementing the subdued colours famously portrayed in traditional miniature Indian paintings.
